WESTERN AUSTRALIAN  ATHLETES AT THE OLYMPIC GAMES - Beijing 2008

2008 Australian Olympic Team

Early forecasts suggest the 2008 Australian Olympic Team will comprise approx 433 competitors as well as 270-290 support staff. This will be Australia's second largest away team behind the Athens 2004 team of 482.

The WAOC anticipate the selection of around 50 West Australian athletes and over 20 West Australian support staff. 

As at July 21st - 48 Western Australian athletes have been officially named, as included in the 2008 Australian Olypmic Team.

To be eligible to be considered as a Western Australian representative for the purpose of the official “WA Olympic Records”, at the time of Olympic selection /competition an athlete must;

  • be eligible to represent Western Australia at State/National level;
  • be a registered member of their relevant Western Australia State Sporting Association or if not applicable or based overseas, last registered with Western Australia;
  • not represent another State (not State Institute) that competes against a Western Australian State Team or WA based professional Sporting Team i.e.: Perth Wildcats, Perth Glory.
